How to measure for a toilet seat

Many of you may need to purchase at least one toilet seat in your lifetime. At least I hope you do. I say that its not safe to continue use on a broken seat or a seat that has been used by others you don’t know excluding the public seat where you should at least be covering with a toilet seat cover.

It’s not hard at all to replace a toilet seat. Check out this video from Bemis on how to measure before you make the purchase.

Get this info before you go to the store

So this is one of the easiest way to find a replacement seat at your local home improvement stores.

Keep in mind that toilets that are 10 or 15 years or older will be slightly off in size and will need to have the exact match. You can find this information in your toilet tank. Look for brand names and indented numbers and letters that are grouped together. Home brands tend to keep to the same way of doing things if its not broke don’t change it yet. It also helps with the proprietary of the business. So with information in hand you will have to do some online research to find retailers or sellers who still have these items in stock.

If that too much for you then take this opportunity to upgrade your porcelain throne to something more water efficient. Toilets that are being made now are only using 1.28 gallons of water to flush. And, it doesn’t need to be flushed twice to work.

Make sure to measure from the bolt to the wall to know what size “rough in” you will need there’s only two measures. A “10 inch” and a “12 inch” rough in this will insure you’re getting the right fit for your bathroom.

Also, measure the largest size your bathroom can take with the different styles being offered the footprint can be slightly larger than older models and some of you may need to take that under consideration.
